Installing Windows Server 2016 on Virtual Box

 



Windows Server 2016 Installation


Notes for using this guide - At each step there is an image of what you should see if you are following the guide correctly - each action will be followed by an image


1.Copy the two files listed below to the C drive of your PC ( it might help creating a sub folder titled ‘ISO files’


2.Open the Oracle Virtual box application from the desktop




3.Click the blue star new 




4.Type Unit 20 Server 2016 in the name field

Leave the machine folder as it is

Ensure type is Microsoft Windows 

Ensure version is Windows 2016 (64Bit)




5.Move the slider to select memory size of (4096MB (4GB) If you are using a laptop with a total memory amount of 8GB drop this down to 3096MB 


6.Ensure create a virtual hard disk now is selected


Ensure VDI ( virtual disk image is selected )


Ensure dynamically allocated disk size is selected


Move the slider to a capacity of 30.41GB



Click the green arrow start 




Click the small yellow folder


Click Add ( the green plus sign )



Select the file listed below from where you copied it to on the C: drive





Once listed select choose




Click start




Change the time and currency format toUnited Kingdom. Click Next




Click install now



Enter the product key as below


Accept the license terms



Select custom install 


Select the drive and click next


The installation will now begin and could take 10-15minutes


Choose a password that you will remember, if you can’t think of anything use Password1



Enter your password at the login screen 



Once you get into the desktop a configuration window should pop up click cancel 


Shut down the server - select Other (unplanned) as your reason





Windows 10 installation


Click the blue star new




Enter Windows 10 Unit 20 as the name 

Leave the machine folder as it is 

Ensure the type is Microsoft Windows 

Change the version to Windows 10 (64Bit)





Change the slider to 2709MB (2.7GB) Memory size ( if you are on a laptop leave it as 2048MB )


Ensure the create a virtual hard disk is selected



Ensure VDI is selected 

Ensure dynamically allocated is selected


Change the File size location slider to 30.41GB


Click the green arrow start 



Click the yellow folder




Click the green plus arrow Add





Select the Windows 10 file from where you saved it on the C drive 


Make sure Windows 10 is highlighted and click choose


Click start ensuring Windows 10 is selected



Ensure time and currency is United Kingdom


Click install now

Click I don’t have a product key

Select Windows 10 Pro 


Accept the license terms 

Select custom installation 

Select the drive and click next


Select United Kingdom


Select Skip to not add a second keyboard



Select set up for personal use 



Select United Kingdom for keyboard layout 



Choose Offline account



Select limited experience



Type the user name as Admin



Type a password you will remember for example Password1


Select security questions and answers


Select yes



Select accept 


Select use online speech recognition 



Select Yes and accept to use location 


Select Yes and accept 



Select Full and accept


Select Yes and accept




Select Yes and accept


Select Yes and accept





Shutdown the Windows 10 machine
